Woman killed in collision with FDNY engine

NEW YORK — A speeding fire truck collided with a car at a Queens intersection yesterday, killing the car's driver and injuring several firefighters on their way to a blaze, officials said.

A truck with FDNY's Engine Company 275 was traveling west on 111th Avenue at 9:45 a.m. on a fire call when it approached a four-way stop at 155th Street in South Jamaica, according to New York police. A woman driving a Nissan Maxima on 155th Street proceeded into the intersection in front of the fire truck, which had lights and sirens on, police said.

The passenger car and truck collided in the intersection, heavily damaging both vehicles, officials said. The driver of the car, identified as Angela Johnson, 27, of 118th Avenue in Cambria Heights, was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Attempts to reach a family member yesterday were unsuccessful.

The crash also injured all six firefighters aboard the truck, including a lieutenant. Police said two firefighters with serious injuries and three with minor injuries were treated at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Fire officials said the blaze in a home on 109th Avenue, which caused minor damage but no injuries, was extinguished at 10:06 a.m. by other responding crews.
