Vol. firefighter hit by van, killed

Firefighter Nicholas Vachon was walking home from a Christmas party when he was hit

By FireRescue1 Staff

ONTARIO, Canada — A volunteer firefighter has been killed after being hit by a van while on a walk.

Firefighter Nicholas Vachon, 31, was walking along a road returning from a Christmas party when he was struck Saturday night.

Firefighter Vachon was reportedly wearing dark clothing and there was no street lamp at the scene, according to CBC.

No one in the van was injuried and police say alcohol and speeding are not believed to be factors in the incident.

An autopsy will determine if Firefighter Vachon may have been intoxicated.
