Calif. councils get wildfire prevention grant

ARCADIA, Calif. — At a quiet gathering amid the brush-filled hills of Chantry Flats on Thursday, officials from two local fire safe councils received a portion of a $150,000 grant to help residents protect their homes.

Members of the California Fire Safe Council, an umbrella organization for dozens of local councils, were on hand to receive the grant from Farmers Insurance Group. The money will go to some of the 150 or so local fire safe councils up and down the state.

Two local fire safe councils, the Sierra Madre and Big Santa Anita councils, each received $1,000.
