2006 National Wildland/Urban Interface Fire Education Conference

The National Wildland/ Urban Interface Fire Working Team/Firewise Communities will hold its second National Wildland/Urban Interface Fire Education Conference, "Backyards and Beyond," in Denver, Colorado November 2-4, 2006. This conference provides a great opportunity to network with other like-minded professionals and to share best practices. The diverse group of attendees will provide invaluable information to take back with you to your community and workplace.You will be able to customize your educational experience by choosing from more than 70 educational sessions over six conference tracks.

And, you won’t want to miss Thursday morning at 8:00 am for our Opening General Session and hear our Keynote Speaker, James Mapes, Founder and President, of The Quantum Leap Thinking Organization.

CONFERENCE TRACKS

Using Technology features the application of various technologies for planning, assessment, and forest management in collaborative projects for wildfire planning efforts.

Research examines the latest information available on physical and social science issues and factors that affect those living in the wildland/urban interface.

Firewise Communities/USA focuses on how to become a Firewise™ community, real-life experiences of successful recognition sites, how to engage homeowners, and long term rewards of becoming Firewise.

Planning and Mitigation explores best practices in land use planning and development, risk assessment methodologies landscape techniques, working with community leaders and fire emergency personnel, and reducing risks and realizing benefits of wildland fire.

Fire and Emergency Operations includes fire fighter occupational safety and health, structural and wildland fire fighting personnel working together, and innovative methods used for structure protection in the wildland/ urban interface.

Communicating the Firewise™ Message will explore channels for communicating with fellow residents, community leaders, and the media, including how to entice the media to a Firewise event and preparing for media interviews.
