FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A veteran fire captain died Wednesday during a training exercise.

WMEE reported that Fort Wayne Fire Department Captain Eric Balliet was leading a crew through a “physically demanding training exercise” when he was transported to the hospital.

His cause of death has not yet been released.

Capt. Balliet was a 19-year veteran of the department and was promoted to Captain in 2005 to work in the fire investigation division.
