CLARKSVILLE, Md. — A firefighter died Monday while battling a large house blaze, according to officials.

FOX5 DC reported that Howard County Fire and EMS firefighter Nathan Flynn was one of the first to enter the home to battle the 7-alarm blaze, which officials said was possibly caused by a lightning strike.

Officials said firefighters were having a hard time controlling the fire due to the home’s size, and they pulled out to take a defensive stance against the flames.

Flynn, a 13-year fire veteran, fell through the floor of the home into the basement and was pulled from the house, according to officials. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
