Firefighter dies in tanker roll over
Investigators believe the tanker was thrown off balance by shifting water while making a turn
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A volunteer firefighter died after a tanker truck rolled over while responding to a grass fire Sunday.
Firefighter Mark A. Haudenschild, II, 26, identified by INC Now was originally listed as in critical condition, but was later confirmed dead by police.
Firefighter Haudenschild was driving the tanker, when police say the water inside shifted when he made a turn, causing the truck to roll over and slide several feet on the road, according to WANE.
When the truck rolled over, it hit three utility poles, trapping the firefighter inside.
It is believed no one else was in the truck at the time of the accident, but officials say they are still investigating.
