Inspect the inside rear tires
By Mark van der Feyst
One of a firefighter's duties is to check apparatus on a regular basis. How and when this is done is up to the department to determine.
The inside tires on the rear axle are often overlooked during apparatus checks. One concern is large rocks becoming wedged between the two tires as this can create a driving hazard.
If not inspected carefully, it is easy to miss when the inside tire has gone flat. The tread also needs to be inspected to ensure there is enough of it to grip the road when driving.
