Two Apple Valley Fire Protection District firefighters injured while battling a house fire Monday morning were identified Tuesday.

Capt. Larry Davis, 44, of Apple Valley and firefighter Brian Malloy, 22, also of Apple Valley, suffered second- and third-degree burns.

The men had been battling a blaze about 11:30 a.m. in a single-story house in the 11000 block of Merino Avenue, fire officials said.

They had become trapped in the living room of the burning house, officials said Monday.

Davis, a 22-year veteran of the fire district, suffered third-degree burns to his hands and portions of his calves, according to a fire district news release. He suffered second degree burns to his ears, forehead, neck, and knees, officials said.

He was being treated at the Sherman Oaks Hospital Burn Center, where officials said he was expected to stay for two weeks. Davis is married with four children.

Malloy has spent three years with the fire district. He suffered second-degree burns to both hands, officials said. He was released earlier Tuesday from Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

A fund was established in support of Davis’ family. Anyone interested in donating may call Luann Hopkins at the fire district, (909) 247-7618.
