SLIDELL, La. — A man who authorities believe was trying to buy a car from a firefighter killed the seller and stuffed his body in the trunk in Louisiana.
The body of St. Tammany Parish Fire District No. 1 Battalion Chief David Smith was found shot four times with a 9 mm pistol, twice behind the ear and twice in the body, Monday after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.
Law enforcement officials charged 33-year-old Michael Lizana with first-degree murder on Tuesday.
Investigators believe Lizana went to Chief Smith’s home to look at the Camaro that he was trying to sell.
"(It’s) an exceptional loss. We’re heartbroken. I can’t even put it into words,” Fire District 1 Chief Larry Hess told WDSU.
