WADING RIVER, N.Y. — A group of firefighters were charged after allegedly taking part in a massive brawl that broke out between them and a wedding party and left the groom injured.
New York Post reported that the brawl broke out between Hagerman Fire Department firefighters and guests of a wedding while the firefighters attended a dinner at the East Wind Hotel, according to police.
Police said as many as 50 drunken people began pushing and hitting each other, which resulted in one person being transported to the hospital and the groom being punched in the face by three different brawlers.
First Assistant Chief Thomas Dunham was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, Lt. Corey Citarella was charged with third-degree assault and firefighters Andrew and Brendan Dunham were charged for assault.
Attorney Steve Kiely said the brawl was started by “people on both sides who were drunk.”
The firefighters are set to appear in court on March 20.
