30K people trace fallen firefighter’s steps at 'Tunnel to Towers' run
Participants followed the footsteps of Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11

NEW YORK — Thousands of runners ran to honor a fallen firefighter and other first responders who died in the 9/11 attacks.
NY1 reported that participants of the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K followed the footsteps of fallen firefighter Stephen Siller through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, which is the route he took on 9/11 carrying 60 pounds of gear. Siller died in the south tower collapse.
Money raised in the event will go to several different organizations that support first responders.
“Just to honor what Stephen did and what all the first responders did that day, such heroes in my eyes,” a London firefighter said when asked why he attends the race every year. “And also being a London firefighter, it shows a little bond between us and the FDNY and what happened.”
The event has taken place since 2002 and the number of participants has grown from a few thousand to about 30,000.
