Va. fire dept. mourns loss of colleague

Moneta Fire Department announced that Brian Helman died and described him as a “dedicated member of the fire department”

MONETA, Va. — A fire department is mourning the loss of a firefighter who died Monday.

According to a Facebook post, Moneta Fire Department firefighter Brian Helman, 52, died of an unreleased cause.

“Brian was a dedicated member of the fire department and was well known for the impact he made on so many lives,” the department said. “He will be surely missed but not forgotten.”

According to Helman’s obituary, he was also a former volunteer with the Vinton First Aid Crew, as well as Red Knights Chapter 19.

No other details have been released.
