FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A firefighter-EMT died Saturday in a vehicle crash.

Patch.com reported that Austin Buoni, 22, who volunteered with the Shelton and Trumbull fire departments, lost control of his vehicle and slid across the road before hitting a utility pole, according to Fairfield police.

Buoni was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

A Facebook post from the Valley Fire Chiefs Regional Training School, where Buoni graduated from in 2014, said he was “an excellent student, and just a great kid outside of the classroom.”

“His gentle, selfless spirit attracted people of all ages, occupations and backgrounds. This trait is also what drove his passion for the occupation of firefighter and EMT,” a GoFundMe page set up for Buoni’s family said.

The staff of the Valley Fire School would like to express our sincere condolences to the friends, family and colleagues...
