WOODLAND, Calif. — Woodland has reached into the ranks of West Sacramento’s public officials to pick a new fire chief.

West Sacramento Deputy Fire Chief Rebecca Ramirez has been selected to be the new fire chief in Woodland. She starts her new job Feb. 27.

Woodland Mayor Angel Barajas called Ramirez “a talented, tested, and respected public safety servant.”

Ramirez has risen through the ranks the past 25 years. In West Sacramento, she has held the jobs of firefighter, fire engineer, fire captain, battalion chief and division chief before being promoted to deputy chief last year.

Woodland is re-establishing the fire chief position with the pending retirement of Public Safety Chief Dan Bellini, who oversees both the Police and Fire Departments. The city is also in the process of recruiting a new police chief.
