New members join diverse group of fire service leaders to provide direction, guidance and oversight of leading media communities for firefighters, company officers and fire chiefs


San Francisco — FireRescue1.com, the leading online information and training resource for the fire and rescue community, is excited to announce the expansion of its editorial advisory board to include the following fire service leaders:

  • John Butler: fire chief, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Virginia

  • Nicol Juratovac: assistant chief, San Francisco Fire Department

Headed by FireRescue1 and Fire Chief Executive Editor Marc Bashoor – fire chief and public safety director in Highlands County, Florida – the editorial advisory board provides direction, guidance and oversight of FireRescue1 and Fire Chief editorial efforts, including original news, columns and major coverage initiatives. Board members work closely with FireRescue1 editors to ensure the continued quality and comprehensive range of coverage.

“Ensuring that our coverage and analysis is representative of current fire service issues is a top priority,” Bashoor said. “Expanding our editorial advisory board helps keep our finger on the pulse of the industry, with a diverse group of individuals who are not only members of progressive agencies and organizations, but also dialed into the critical research, advanced tactics and forward-thinking leadership principles that are shaping the industry.”

The newest members join an already impressive lineup of fire service experts currently serving on the FireRescue1 and Fire Chief editorial advisory board:

  • Ted Aroesty: executive director, Brighton (N.Y.) Fire District
  • Garry Briese: executive director, Colorado State Fire Chiefs
  • John Buckman: fire chief (ret.), German Township (Indiana) Volunteer Fire Department
  • Pedro Caceres: battalion chief, Wayne Township (Indiana) Fire Department
  • Billy Hayes: former fire chief, Riverdale (Georgia) Fire Department
  • Gary Ludwig: fire chief, Champaign (Illinois) Fire Department; incoming IAFC president
  • Ron Siarnicki: executive director, National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation
