FORT EDWARD, N.Y. — The Kingsbury man who killed a co-worker by running him over with a piece of equipment last spring was arrested Saturday for nearly hitting a 6-year-old girl and several firefighters with his vehicle, police said.
Walter J. Winchell, 45, of Queens Drive, was arrested after the Saturday night incident on East Street in Fort Edward, according to Fort Edward Police.
Police said Winchell drove a Jeep Wrangler onto an East Street property at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to slide in snow and nearly hit a child and firefighters who were at a call on the property, Fort Edward Police Sgt. Justin Derway said. Fort Edward firefighters were at the building around 6:45 p.m. because of a natural gas odor.
