Volunteer fire department firehouse damaged by fire
Investigators believe some faulty wiring caught one of its trucks on fire
CROFTON, Ky. — A local fire department is trying to recover from its own emergency. Investigators believe some faulty wiring caught one of its trucks on fire at the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department. Then, the flames spread. Now, there's water and smoke damage throughout the fire hall and city hall.
"Kinda shocking to hear it coming across the pager when it's your department," said Crofton Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief Jeremy Marlar. "You're just thinking, 'Man, did I really just hear that right? Is that our department they're paging out to?' "
At Brandy's Restaurant, all the conversation over tall glasses of sweet tea centers around what happened just across the street. "I'm sure it was the buzz all over town, yeah," said county magistrate Terry Bowman. "The last thing you expect to happen is the fire house is on fire."
