Use the radio strap

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

The radio strap is a very good aid, as it relocates the radio from the chest area to the hip area. When the radio is in the chest pocket, it sometimes reduces the person's mobility. The radio strap can be worn inside or outside the turnout coat. If worn on the outside, use it to carry other items needed from time to time.

The radio strap has two leather loops meant for the radio mic. A small personal flashlight can be secured on the additional loop, removing it from the chest area on the gear. A utility knife also can be secured on the second loop for quick access in survival situations.
