Cleveland fire truck hit by explosion, debris

The engine crew was responding to three garbage trucks on fire when an explosion occurred right in front of them

CLEVELAND — A fire truck was hit by an explosion while responding to three garbage trucks on fire Thursday morning.

News5Cleveland.com reported that the three trucks were spewing black smoke and explosions were seen and heard in the area. An explosion happened as the first engine company was passing the scene. The explosion sent fire and debris onto the side of the truck.

The four firefighters inside were uninjured and jumped out to begin extinguishing the flames.

The fire was under control in about an hour; the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
