Texas city's new mobile barrier shields first responders from secondary crash

Carrollton's MB115 protected an injured driver and first responders working the scene of a highway crash

CARROLLTON, Texas — The Carrolton Fire Department recently purchased a mobile barrier trailer designed to protect responders working roadway incidents, and it did not take long to prove the investment was well worth it.

The MB115, which can hold up to 3,000 gallons of water and weighs 80,000 pounds, was deployed to a suspected DWI crash over the weekend, with the intent of shielding providers from roadway traffic. Shortly after it was moved into position, a driver crashed into the trailer, the department wrote in a Facebook post.

The barrier protected both the driver and the first responders.

Designed to deflect impacts, the barrier reduces the chance of injury for those who hit it.

"MB115 will protect citizens, first responders, and Carrollton's emergency vehicles. We can't exactly push this one in, but we sure are glad she's here!" the department's social post read.
