Several teens injured in Wash. van crash

The Associated Press

BLEWETT PASS, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol says a van carrying 12 members of a youth group and a driver has crashed on Blewett Pass in the Cascade Range, injuring several people.

Trooper Dave Phelps says the van was carrying members of the Northwest Youth Corps, a youth development and outdoor education organization based in Eugene, Ore.

Phelps says they were headed north on U.S. 97 to do trail maintenance work in the Twisp area of north-central Washington when the van veered off the road and rolled down an embankment Sunday afternoon.

Phelps says the youth, who range in age from 16 to 19, and the driver were taken to a hospital. He says five or six were treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash occurred about one mile south of the summit on Blewett Pass.

The cause is under investigation.
