The seller claimed the helmet, priced at $500, fell off a fire truck.

NEW YORK — An FDNY fire helmet was found in the most unusual places over the weekend.

The helmet, which had been missing, appeared on eBay. The seller, who claims he “just wanted to make money out of it,” turned the helmet over to the police after fire marshals attempted to remove the listing.

The seller, who claims to be a teenager, said the helmet fell off a fire truck.

The listing for the helmet, priced at $500, was posted Saturday, but was taken down the following day, reported the New York Daily News. The seller described the helmet as “used but like new,” and stated the best offer available would also be accepted.
