5 firefighters hurt in Md. crash

RIVERA BEACH, Md. — Five county firefighters were injured last night when the driver lost control of a fire engine and crashed into a utility pole at Fort Smallwood and Somerset roads in Riviera Beach.

One of the firefighters was trapped in the engine, but eventually was freed.

He and another firefighter were taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious but not critical injuries, said Fire Department Capt. Debbie Bowen.
