New Pierce Saber and Enforcer Custom Chassis Quickly Reach and Surpass Sales Milestones
APPLETON, WI (February, 2015) – Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, reports that sales of its newest custom chassis – the Pierce® Saber® and Enforcer™ – have quickly reached, and are surpassing important milestones. In December 2014, the 100th custom apparatus was purchased by the Ormond Beach Fire Department in Florida. Introduced in March 2014, Pierce Saber and Enforcer orders continue to ramp upward and now total more than 150 vehicles sold.
“Achieving these sales milestones 10 months from the launch of the new Saber and Enforcer chassis is a tremendous accomplishment, and we continue to see strong growth among departments large and small, from coast to coast,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “The new Saber and Enforcer are further proof positive that Pierce continues to deliver industry-leading performance, reliability and value across the widest range of custom chassis.”
“As with many fire departments, exercising fiscal responsibility is a top priority when making large purchases,” said Battalion Commander Nate Quartier of the Ormond Beach Fire Department. “The Pierce Saber pumper’s standard features allowed us to keep additional costs down without sacrificing the quality and durability of the materials. It’s a win-win for our department and our community.”
Developed with assistance and input from fire departments nationwide, the Saber custom chassis sets the performance edge in the industry standard category, yet retains the simple, straightforward, and durable features for which it’s long been known. The Enforcer chassis offers a wider range of configurations and an unmatched selection of options – including TAK-4® independent suspension and the Pierce exclusive DD13 big-block engine.
The Pierce Saber pumper for Ormond Beach includes seating for four firefighters and a cab rear wall featuring a patented design that allows departments to easily reposition the seating configuration in minutes. The vehicle also offers a 22-inch front bumper extension, full height and full depth compartments, adjustable shelves and floor-mounted slide out trays, and a backboard storage compartment located over the pump. The vehicle’s firefighting system includes a 1,250-GPM single-stage pump, a 500-gallon water tank, and Pierce’s Control Zone™ side control pump panel.
“Continuing to provide prompt and efficient service – with an increasing call volume – is one of the main response challenges for our department,” added Commander Quartier. “The Pierce Saber’s roomy cab allows us to have more interior space without sacrificing overall apparatus width or length. This larger cab allowed for the addition of a generous EMS cabinet inside, and the rear wall seating configuration system will enable us to adapt the cab to future seating and storage needs.”
Located in northeastern Volusia County on Florida’s Atlantic coast, Ormond Beach has a population of approximately 40,000 residents within a 40-square-mile protection area. The department’s wide-ranging response area includes residential neighborhoods, historic homes, large apartment complexes, and beachfront high-rises, as well as industrial parks, several major highways, and a large wildland interface and coastal peninsula. Services delivered include fire protection, advanced life support, disaster preparedness and response, fire and life safety education, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue. The department also provides automatic aid with neighboring cities and unincorporated areas of Volusia County.
