SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — When the first emergency responders arrived at the scene of an all-terrain vehicle crash on the southern fringe of Skinner State Park early Sunday, they could still hear the ATV running in darkness some 700 feet below a cliff.
Nearby, three people lay on the ground, including two with critical injuries, after tumbling some 500 feet.
Of the six people involved in the nighttime crash, two had made their way back to the top of the steep cliff with injuries, while a third man with a head injury left the woods to get help at the home of one of the crash victims, whose family lives nearby.
