FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — A volunteer firefighter turned 101 years old after serving with the department for over 40 years.
WUSA9 reported that Glenn Brubaker started working with the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department over 40 years ago and still has his energetic spirit.
"It's something inside of you. You gotta go, you gotta go," Brubaker said. "You don't get tired. Tired! I have never used that word in my life.”
Brubaker spends most of his volunteer time helping out around the station kitchen. Firefighter Tommy Hipkins said Brubaker is well-liked and appreciated.
"I've never heard him say a bad word about anyone in his life," Hipkins said.
"We appreciate him. He always brings a good mood to everybody he meets. He lights up a room," Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said.
Brubaker doesn’t let his age deter him from his volunteer work, and credits his long life to kindness and generosity.
"I feel great about turning 101," he said. "It seems like people are friendlier. A lot of people want to shake my hand."
