Job Description

Under close supervision, performs fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents, and protect the lives and property of the City residents.

All successful candidates will be required to attend a CGFD designated Fire Academy. While in the Fire Academy, Fire Recruits rate of pay is $ 3,738.52 monthly.

Upon successful completion of the Fire Academy and certification as a Firefighter 1 and 2 by the State of Arizona, you will be re-classified as a Firefighter, and your rate of pay will be $ 4,092.92 monthly. Also, Certified Paramedics receive a 10% bonus to their pay. You must complete a 1-year probationary period and maintain a high level of physical fitness to meet CGFD Standards.

Written Test: If you have qualified, you will receive the time and location of the written test by e-mail. Qualified applicants will be invited to the written test on Tuesday, February 11th, or Thursday, February 13th, 2020. The written test is PASS/FAIL. ++You must bring a government-issued picture ID for admittance to the test++. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Oral Board: Applicants who successfully pass the written test may be invited to an oral interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for February 24, 25, 26 and 27, 2020. Invited candidates will be notified on the day of the testing of available interview dates and times. The interview phase is also PASS/FAIL.

Fire Chief's Interview: Applicants who successfully pass the Oral Board may be invited to a Fire Chief's interviews. Times and location to be determined. Invited candidates will be invited to this phase at a later date by e-mail. These interviews are considered PASS/ FAIL.

Additional Information

++Education and Experience:++
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
Must have Arizona EMT or Paramedic certification or be a Nationally Registered EMT (NREMT) or Paramedic (NREMTP), with the ability to obtain Arizona certification within six-months of date of hire
Must have a valid and current CPAT card (Candidate Physical Agility Test)
Valid Arizona Drivers' License or the ability to obtain an Arizona Drivers' License within six-months of the date of hire

Job Requirements

Knowledge of Fire Department general orders, guidelines, policies and procedures
Knowledge of firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety issues
Knowledge of City's geography; the location of all streets, sites and building locations; and the hazards of these facilities, to assure that firefighting activities are accomplished in a fast, effective and safe manner
Skill and dexterity in providing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services under emergency conditions
Skill in following orders under stressful conditions
Skill in recognizing the design, construction, utilization and contents of buildings in order to apply appropriate standard firefighting techniques
Skill in assessing emergency medical patient needs, and providing emergency medical care
Skill in performing maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment
Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions
Ability to read, comprehend, retain technical training materials and follow directions
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Ability to make effective decisions and deal effectively with others
Ability to endure periods of strenuous physical activity requiring good balance, coordination, flexibility and strength
