Job Description
Corvallis Firefighters respond to fire, hazardous material, medical emergency and nonemergency calls. Perform fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, and hazardous material spill control duties. Perform basic or advanced emergency medical care, rescue and transport, depending on EMS licensure level. Members may be assigned to specialty teams including Hazmat and Special Rescue.

Salary Range: $5,697.20-$7,445.90 monthly
Certification Pay:
$819.05 monthly - Paramedic
$297.84 monthly - Intermediate
$148.92 monthly - AEMT
Certification Pay will be granted upon start date. To maintain certification pay, lateral firefighters must obtain full standing orders during probationary period.
Lateral Recruitment Incentives:
Start at pay step consistent with years of experience with approval of Fire Chief.
Placement on the vacation accrual scale consistent with years served.
Credited with up-front sick leave of 72 hours and vacation of 120 hours.
Shorter probationary period of 9 months with an 8 week lateral fire academy.

Job Requirements
- Age: 18
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Worked fulltime as a career firefighter with applicable EMS licensure for at least two years
A lateral firefighter is a newly hired employee who is already certified as a NFPA Firefighter 1 or equivalent; is a current licensed Advanced EMT (AEMT), EMT – Intermediate, or Paramedic with the State of Oregon, or is current with the National Registry at an EMS licensure level higher than EMT and is eligible for State of Oregon reciprocity; and has worked fulltime as a career firefighter with applicable EMS licensure for at least two years.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal education in firefighting techniques, hazardous materials, emergency services and/or specialized training or job-related field preferred. State of Oregon Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Licensure by time of appointment. Licensure levels above AEMT preferred, such as EMT-I and Paramedic. Valid Oregon driver’s license, a minimum of 3 years licensed driving experience, and a driving record that meets the standards set by the City of Corvallis and Oregon Revised Statutes. Ability to pass a pre-placement comprehensive background investigation and physical capacity exam. Eligibility list will be maintained for 90 days.
