The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) is a full-service governmental agency stewarding a metropolitan system of public open space parklands and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of the San Francisco Bay. The Park District acquires, manages, and preserves natural and cultural resources for everyone to enjoy now and forever to experience nature nearby.

The Fire Department is a branch of the Public Safety Division and provides all typical emergency services, including fire suppression, hazardous materials responses, search and rescue, auto extrication, emergency medical services, prescribed burns for fire hazard reduction and resource management. The department has 14 wildland fire engines to provide service for 73 parks and responds to approximately 1,200 calls per year. The Fire Department works closely with our neighboring agencies in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and provides emergency response when called upon by CAL FIRE and the Office of Emergency Services.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Park District is currently recruiting for a Fire Lieutenant to supervise the Park District’s Hand Crew and serve a supportive role for the Fire Captain. This position will be located at the Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park in Pleasanton, CA. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.
The Fire Lieutenant’s primary responsibility will be to lead supervision of the Park District’s hand crew, ensuring that all vegetation management and fuels reduction projects are executed according to assigned timelines. Serving as an extension of the Fire Captain, the Lieutenant would be expected to supervise fuels suppression efforts while keeping up to date on training in addition to continuing regular maintenance of vehicles & equipment. The current crew has 12 members and two crew lead positions. The current schedule for this position is four (4) ten-hour shifts Tuesday-Friday.

• Proof of a valid Class C California Driver’s License AND Firefighter “F” Endorsement or Commercial B license or higher.

• Hazardous Materials First Responder (Operational Level) Certificate

• California State EMT Basic Certification (EMT-B) or greater

• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card of Completion issued no earlier than one (1) year from the recruitment filing deadline.
