Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms with assigned company; lay and connect hose; maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; ventilate burning structures; enter buildings to evacuate occupants.

• Operate all types of fire operation and rescue equipment including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, smoke ejectors, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment and emergency medical equipment.

• Respond to emergency medical incidents such as auto accidents, gas system leaks and animals in distress; analyze patient needs and administer emergency medical treatment until relieved by medical personnel of equal or higher level of certification.

• Preserve evidence at fire scenes.

• Assist and perform the maintenance and repair of fire equipment and apparatus such as hydrants, trucks and support equipment.

• Participate in fire station housekeeping.

• Perform search and rescue of individuals in hazardous environments including collapsed buildings, auto accidents, hazardous material spills and confined spaces.

• Attend special instruction in firefighting emergency medical techniques; perform drills with other engine company staff; become familiar with district layout, established response routes and water supplies; prepare and maintain a variety of firefighting preplan drawings and schematics.

• Operate fire apparatus, tools and equipment as required.

• Step-up as Fire Engineer as required.

• Attends continuing education courses as required.

Peripheral Duties

• Provide general information to the public concerning fire prevention practices and procedures.

• Assist with training programs and group presentations relative to firefighter duties and fire suppression.

• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Valid MISSOURI Driver's License : YES, OR able to obtain Missouri license within 6 months.

Vision : Pass NFPA 1582 Physical Exam after conditional job offer at expense of Osage Beach Fire Protection District

NECESSARY CERTIFICATION :

Firefighter I & II

State of Missouri or National Registered EMT-Basic Current CPR card

IAFF/IAFC CPAT card within past year

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Able to work any assigned shift, including nights, holidays and weekends.

Able to work a 48-hour on-duty, 96-hour off-duty schedule. (We work a 48/96-hour work schedule)

Available to work overtime as assigned and as needed on an emergency basis.

Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications, training and/or eligibility for hiring placement or promotion.
