Portland Fire & Rescue is seeking qualified and experienced firefighters to join the largest fire and emergency services provider in Oregon!
Eligible candidates for hire will have a minimum of 2 years of current and continuous experience as a full time /career firefighter with no separation time or break in service at time of application. (V_olunteer, sleeper/resident, paid on-call, or seasonal does_ _not __apply to lateral firefighter recruitment) _All requirements listed below.
Newly hired lateral firefighters for Portland Fire & Rescue will be required to successfully complete a condensed fire academy and complete 12 months as a probationary firefighter.
The City of Portland will offer qualified firefighters a language premium if they are multilingual and meet the qualification process.
About the Portland Fire & Rescue:
Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) is the largest fire and emergency services provider in the State of Oregon, serving the City of Portland and the regional metropolitan area. In addition to responding to fire, medical, and other emergency incidents, PF&R is the lead responder for all natural and human caused disasters including: earthquake, flood, and terrorism, and acts as an important safety net for those suffering from homelessness or without support systems. PF&R also provides critical public safety and community health services including fire prevention, community outreach, and public education.
++Work Schedule, Pay rate and Accruals:++ Portland Fire and Rescue will be entering into a trial shift schedule (1-3-2-3) for members assigned to Emergency Operations. The trial shift schedule consists of one 24-hour shift on followed by 72 hours off, then 48 hours on, followed by 72 hours off. The trial schedule will be in effect from March 3rd 2022 through January 5th 2023.
Entry rate of pay for lateral firefighter shall be based on the number of years paid firefighting experience with a fire agency outside of PF&R. Entry rate compensation for lateral firefighters shall be as follows:
2 years of experience - $75,714 Vacation hours 120.12* 3 years of experience - $82,020 Vacation hours 124.02* 4+ years of experience - $87,473 Vacation hours 128.18* *Vacation hours to be credited at time of hire
Wage rates will increase to the next step on the anniversary date of hire.
Vacation hours are capped at 128.18 regardless of years of experience.
