Prince William County Fire and Rescue System (FRS) employees are dedicated to protecting lives and serving our community. Selection Criteria: To apply for this eligibility list the applicant: Must be at least 18 years of age by July 1, 2021 Have a valid Driver's License at time of application Have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED by July 1, 2021

Hiring Salary: Base salary is $52,749.00 per year. This is a unique employment opportunity to earn full pay and benefits from day one of your training.

Signing Bonus: Applicants with a Virginia EMT-P or National Registry EMT-P may be eligible to receive a one-time $3,000 (minus taxes) signing bonus payable after successful completion of the probationary period from date of hire.

Education Bonus: Applicants may receive a one-time education bonus, as a percentage of the entry level salary for the offered position, payable after successful completion of the probationary period from date of hire, as calculated below: •1.5% - Associates Degree •3% - Bachelors Degree •4.5% - Masters Degree •6% - Doctorate Degree Bonus eligibility to be determined; Subject to certificate verification.

Military Experience Bonus: Applicants may receive a one-time military experience bonus, as a percentage of the entry level salary for the offered position. This military bonus is for current reservist, or for those that were honorably or medically discharged. This is payable after successful completion of the probationary period from date of hire, as calculated below: •1.5% - Enlisted Ranks (E-4 through E-9) •3% - Officer and Warrant Officer Ranks (W-1 through W-4; O- 1 and higher) Bonus eligibility to be determined; Subject to certificate verification.

Selection Process: The hiring process entails various steps mentioned below. 1. Written Exam - Testing dates will be released in the future 2. Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)  3. The statements in this class specification are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbent(s) assigned to this classification. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs responsible protective service work involving fire suppression, rescue, basic life support, salvage and/or fire prevention. Certain assignments will require the performance of advanced life support medical care. These personnel will receive a supplemental pay benefit.

Work is performed under immediate supervision.

TYPICAL TASKS:

Responds and performs during fire and rescue calls;

Performs basic life support emergency medical and supports advanced life support unit operations;

Provides immediate emergency care to ill or injured persons; Conducts full range of fire suppression duties;

Drives, operates and maintains fire, rescue and EMS apparatus and equipment; Conducts fire prevention inspections and related work; Assists in fire investigation activities; Attends training sessions; Conducts training sessions; Performs salvage operations; Performs rescues from hazardous sites; Performs routine clerical and administrative functions; Presents public education programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of basic and advanced life support principles and practices - advanced life support and medical care when applicable to work assignment; some knowledge of Prince William County geography; general knowledge of County geography and incident command; general knowledge of the principles and practices of tactical uses of firefighting apparatus and equipment; general knowledge of the principles of hydraulics; some knowledge of firefighting apparatus and equipment; some knowledge of the principles and practices to apply fire prevention codes; some knowledge of tactical uses of firefighting apparatus and equipment; some knowledge of standard office equipment to include computers and applicable software; ability to read and understand policies, rules, instructions and written material pertaining to fire and rescue operations; ability to learn firefighting and basic life support emergency care evolutions, techniques, methods and to apply such information appropriately; ability to follow written and oral directions; ability to exercise prudent judgment during hazardous circumstances; ability to act quickly and effectively during emergencies; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public, co-workers, and supervisors; ability to present public education programs; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to function and perform at emergency incident scenes; ability to conduct in-station training.

Applicant must satisfy all other training, experience, physical, and authorized requirements duly established by the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Association and established by the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department within the time limits specified therein before obtaining status as a permanent employee;

If an applicant is applying for a Fire and Rescue Technician I position in the EMS program, applicant must be eligible to hold an EMT-B, EMT-I or EMT-P certification from the State of Virginia. National Registry Certifications or Certifications from other States will require the Virginia Office of EMS to approve legal recognition for Virginia valid certification.

Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual's state Department of Motor Vehicles.
