The City of San Marcos operates under the council-manager form of governance. The Emergency Management Coordinator reports to the Director of Public Safety and directs and oversees the development of short and long-term emergency management planning goals and objectives for the office, including operations and services, while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government rules and regulations.

Additional Information

The Emergency Management Coordinator will be a key member of the City’s management team and will require highly developed leadership and technical skills, coupled with professional communications and presentation skills. The selected individual must hold a bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, liberal arts, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university. A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience with five years of project and personnel managerial level experience in emergency management is required. Exemplary candidates with commensurate combinations of education and experience may be considered. A master’s degree in emergency management or a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate must have Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification from either the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) or as a Texas Certified Emergency Manager (TCEM) or the ability to obtain within two years of employment. A valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record will be required. The City of San Marcos offers a starting salary of +/- $85,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
