The Department is divided into three shifts and spread across four geographical response areas, each under the command of a Battalion Chief. Each battalion includes four to six fire stations, totaling 20 fire stations throughout the county. This Department is one of just 19 CAAS-accredited agencies in the state of Florida, only nine of which are fire departments.

Seminole County hosts a number of special teams, e.g., Special Hazards and Operations Team, Bike Team, Burn Team, Dive Team, Urban Search and Rescue, etc.

Great emphasis is placed on training, evidenced by the opening of the Seminole County Fire/EMS Training Center in 2008, a 44,000 square foot facility situated on nineteen acres. The Training Center boasts various training props utilized during ongoing classes, including a five and a half story training tower erected in the fall of 2009, a pressurized rail car acquired in spring of 2010, an EMS/Sim-Man Lab built in 2014, multiple Fire Simulator props added during 2014-2015, a Forcible Entry training prop purchased in 2016, and a Burn Building erected in 2020.
