Job Description

The City of Worthington will accept test scores for both entry level and lateral Firefighter candidates through June 30, 2023. The City will pull test scores received by March 27th for initial review and consideration in the 2023 hiring process. The City will continue to accept additional test scores through June 30, 2023 and will continue to review and consider candidates for additional hiring throughout the year.

The City of Worthington is offering testing services through National Testing Network, Inc. To register and schedule a test, go to ++www.nationaltestingnetwork.com++ then select Firefighter and sign up for the City of Worthington.

All Candidates are required to complete the NTN Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Candidates are asked to complete the PSSA (Public Safety Self Assessment) on a voluntary basis. A pass/fail physical assessment exercise will be required of all candidates invited to participate in interviews for fulltime positions. The physical assessment will take place the week of April 10th with initial interviews anticipated the week of April 17th.

The City of Worthington will contact candidates that will be invited to move forward in the selection process. DO NOT SUBMIT A CITY APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT UNTIL CONTACTED BY THE WORTHINGTON DEPT. OF PERSONNEL.

Additional Information

Fulltime Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic candidates may be placed in any step of the pay range depending on relevant experience and the recruiting needs of the City. Fulltime Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic Pay Range in 2023:

Salary Information: Fulltime Firefighters have a 4 step salary range. Step A: $63,838.92 Step B: $74,323.90 Step C: $79,949.66 Step D: $85,948.37. All City of Worthington employees are in a Probationary Status for their first year of employment.

Fulltime Firefighter-EMT Basic/Paramedic candidates with paramedic certification and three or more years of fulltime firefighter/paramedic experience will generally be placed in Step C or D of the pay range.

Fulltime Benefit Information: Excellent benefits package includes medical, prescription, vision, dental and life insurance. Holiday leave bank of 216 hours. Initial vacation leave accrual of 10 hours per month up to 24 hours per month based on years of full-time public service in the State of Ohio. Credit for vacation accrual will be given for prior full-time public service in the State of Ohio. Hazardous materials bonus of $600/year. Paramedic differential equal to 5% of top step Firefighter salary.

*_Department Overview: *_The Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division provides emergency response for Worthington, Sharon Township, Perry Township and the Village of Riverlea. Services include fire suppression, rescue, EMS and prevention/inspections. The division is staffed with 37 full-time and 16 part-time firefighters.

Job Requirements

Individuals with an EMT-Basic are eligible for hire but must be enrolled in a Paramedic Certification program within 6 months of their hire date and must complete Certification within 36 months.
