FDNY EMT-probationary firefighter honored at service

NEW YORK — About 100 FDNY EMS providers, firefighters and other staffers gathered Saturday at a Bronx medical services station to pay tribute to EMT and probationary firefighter Vincent Malveaux, who died Friday after suffering a medical episode during training Thursday.

On Saturday, some of his former colleagues huddled together and then hung purple and black bunting on the exterior of FDNY Station 19, where Malveaux had worked as an EMT for four years, the New York Post reported.

Malveaux, 31, who was affectionately known by his former colleagues as “Pablo,” was sworn in as part of the current probationary firefighter class on Oct. 25.

Malveaux’s FDNY partner said he devoted his life to helping people and made people laugh, CBS New York reported.

“He was heroic with every job, every patient that he had,” said FDNY paramedic Christian Marte. “Just the thought of Vincent not being here, it tears me apart.”

FDNY firefighters also put up black and purple bunting Friday at the FDNY training site on Randall’s Island, where Malveaux was assigned.

Malveaux is survived by his parents, Loyd and Vincent, according to the FDNY.

His death is being investigated by the medical examiner.
