KENTON, Tenn. — Police arrested a man after he attacked and threatened a fire chief with a gun at a crash scene.

A station chief was the first to arrive at the crash scene and was checking on victims when a witness pointed out a bag of drugs on the road, reported The Jackson Sun. The chief was struck in the head with a pistol by one of the crash victims when he approached the bag of drugs.

The crash victim, identified as Jerry Yarbrough, 49, pointed his gun at the chief until an assistant fire chief arrived at the scene. Yarbrough was eventually convinced to put the gun down and was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

The chief who was assaulted was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.
