Kern Plateau Prescribed Fire (Prescribed Fire)


Kernville, Ca….November 2017: Hazardous Fuels Reduction projects are scheduled this winter on three mountaintops within the Kern River Ranger District on the Sequoia National Forest. The Kern Plateau Projects: - Are located within the compound of the Blackrock Work Center and Troy Meadow Campground - both off the Sherman Pass Road. Plans are to commence pile burning, Monday, November 20, 2017. All projects are subject to meeting weather and air quality conditions. Smoke will be visible to those traveling across Sherman Pass Vista and into Kennedy Meadows. This treatment consists of 38 brush piles. Firefighters will be utilizing drip torches as firing devices. Threat of escape will be mitigated by constructing lines around piles that are not contained within roads, and personnel will constantly monitor the status and quality of the burn.
