LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles fire captain who was injured in the explosion last weekend that left 12 firefighters injured has lost the use of both his hands, Chief Ralph Terrazas said in an update.
Terrazas told KTLA that Aguirre sustained third-degree burns and has lost the use of both his hands.
"He was the last one off the roof," Terrazas told KTLA. "He made sure all of his firefighters were down before he exited the roof."
A fundraiser has been created to help Aguirre and his family during his hospitalization and recovery. The GoFundMe raised more than $160,000 in one week.
