LODD: Ky. firefighter-paramedic dies after complaining of illness

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. — A firefighter-paramedic died Saturday after experiencing numbness in his mouth after working a shift.
U.S. Fire Administration reported that James "Dewon" Wells, 52, with Montgomery County Fire/EMS, had complained to the chief that he had a headache and didn't feel well May 5. The next day, Wells went to a clinic and returned home after feeling better.
Later that day, his wife came home and found him unresponsive on the couch and not breathing. She called 911 and initiated CPR. Wells was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wells’ cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy conducted over the weekend, reported WKYT.
Wells was a 25-year veteran.
A visitation is scheduled May 10 from 4-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mount Sterling; his funeral will be held May 11 at 1 p.m.
