SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Firefighter Dustin Brandhorst, 36, died Friday night after the fire truck he was operating crashed while en route to a fire, Ozarks First reported.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report stated that the fire truck went off a road and overturned.
Brandhorst was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brandhorst served with the Ebenezer Fire Protection District as a volunteer for three years.
“Dustin was a big part of our family,” Ebenezer Fire Chief Nelson Prewitt said. “It’s sad for our community. He was working his way to become a career individual with us full time. [He was] just was a great guy. He was a servant to his family, and he was a servant to his community.”
Multiple agencies assisted with the crash and with the fire Brandhorst had been on the way to.
