BALKO, Okla. — Jason Smith, a volunteer firefighter with the Balko Fire Department, died Sunday from injuries sustained in a fire truck rollover, News 9 reported.
Smith and fellow volunteer firefighter Tyler Morris suffered burns on April 5 after the fire truck they were in rolled over while they were working the Beaver River Fire. A trooper rescued them by pushing through the smoke when ambulances could not.
Both firefighters were treated for burns and smoke inhalation. Morris continues to recover.
Smith had recently returned home from a burn unit in Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Fellow firefighters and others expressed their condolences on social media.
