NORTH EAST TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter was struck and killed while directing traffic at an earlier crash on Aug. 20. 

Pennsylvania State Police said the Fuller Hose Company firefighter was assisting troopers with traffic at an intersection in North East Township when he was struck by a driver traveling at a high rate of speed, Go Erie reported. 

Dawann M. Simmons was charged with homicide by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury while not licensed. Simmons also faces violations for reckless driving, driving without a license and driving while operating privileges suspended or revoked. 

Simmons has been held on a $200,000 bond. 

The identity of the firefighter has been withheld as officials notify the next of kin.
