S.D. firefighter dies battling commercial structure fire

Huron Fire Chief Ron Hines stated that one firefighter died during a large fire in near-100-degree weather

HURON, S.D. — A South Dakota firefighter has died while fighting a mutual aid commercial structure fire in high temperatures. 

Huron Fire Department Fire Chief Ron Hines posted on Facebook that there was one firefighter fatality during the fire at a business on Highway 14 in Huron on Sept. 4, 2023. 

KELO reported firefighters from several departments fought the fire at Hurd Alignment and Service as the temperature neared 100 degrees. 

Hine's post did not state the firefighter's cause of death. The identity of the fallen firefighter is held pending notification of the family.
