Wildland firefighter dies at Ore. wildfire

Crews are battling dozens of blazes in southern Oregon following more than 200 lightning strikes

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — A wildland firefighter died Thursday at a wildfire in Josephine County, Oregon, the Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced in a statement.

The firefighter’s name is being withheld while the next of kin are notified.

The cause is under investigation.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends and fellow firefighters during this time,” the two organizations stated.

The Josephine County fire is one of dozens in southern Oregon following more than 200 lightning strikes, the Mail Tribune reported.
