NEW YORK — An off-duty volunteer firefighter chased after the man who killed eight people by crashing a truck into a bike path.

PIX 11 reported that volunteer firefighter William Harris, who is also a truck driver, was driving when he heard the crash and saw Sayfullo Saipov in the intersection with what looked like guns. He jumped into action and got out of his truck to run after Saipov.

"This is New York. You don't mess with us," Harris said. "I didn't think twice. I went after him and I had to stop him."

Harris can be seen in video footage running after Saipov before police arrived.

"He kept screaming 'Allahu Akbar' and waving the guns around," Harris said. "I don't know if he was looking for another target or not, but he had to keep turning around and looking at me and running away from me."

When police arrived on scene, they shot Saipov.

"It feels good," Harris said. "Just stopping the bad guy."

Amazing act of heroism from Pearl River resident Bill Harris during the terror attack in New York. You've done Orangetown proud!
