RICHMOND, Va. — A missing Richmond firefighter living in Newport News was found dead in Charlotte, N.C.

Last week, a battalion chief from the Richmond Fire Department requested Newport News police check on 30-year-old Daniel Lewis, according to a Facebook post from Newport News police. When police arrived at his home, they could not find Lewis and a missing person report was filed later that day.

Quinton Coleman said he was a close friend of Lewis’s and that the pair spent a lot of time together. He told the Daily Press that Lewis had been found in a hotel.

WAVY-TV 10 reported that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department did not suspect foul play. The department did not respond to a Daily Press reporter’s inquiry Monday afternoon.

The Newport News Police Department declined to release any additional information.

Lewis worked as a part-time medic at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, Coleman said.

Coleman said Lewis was a great guy and loyal friend who loved his family. He said Lewis was not married and was living alone.
