Man charged for stealing radios from 2 fire departments
The 19-year-old is accused of taking $7,630.50 worth of radios, shoulder microphones, batteries and chargers
WOODBURY, Minn. — A 19-year-old has been charged with four felonies after allegedly stealing nearly $10,000 of radio equipment from two fire departments.
Grand Forks Herald reported that Logan Alexander Smith faces two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of theft from the Oakdale (Minn.) and Lake Elmo fire departments. A total of $7,630.50 worth of radios, shoulder microphones, batteries and chargers had gone missing.
Smith admitted one of the missing radios was at his house and that he gave another to his friend, who later turned it over. He told officers that he found an unlocked door to the fire hall, went inside and took them.
"I just like listening to the fire stuff and EMS calls," Smith said.
Smith said that about a year before the theft, he had been able to get underneath a garage door at Oakdale Fire Station No. 2 to go inside.
