EL PASO, Texas — Water rescue crews with the El Paso Fire Department rescued a 21-year-old woman early Monday after she accidentally drove her car into a water-filled canal.

Fire spokesman Inspector John Concha said that at 1:13 a.m. Monday, crews responding to reports of a car accident at El Paso Drive and North Clark Street found the woman sitting on the roof of her car, which was submerged in a canal.

Concha said the woman told emergency crews that she fell asleep at the wheel.
